Ok this is the strange story of how determined a person can get when they really want to get something done. Simply put sewing machines are not made the way they used to be. Today in the middle of working on a quilt for my sister in law my peddle of sewing mchine gave out. The sewing machine itself was in perfect condition. But the peddle switch gave out. I decided to open the peddle and try to fix it. But sadly the switch mechanism had become separated from the circut board. So their was no way to reattach it and properly reconnect the spring mecanism. So here I am with the quilt pieces cut and laying out on the floor in my living room. I know if I do not sew it now, pieces will be lost, or I will loose the order that I debated over for hours. So whats a girl to do?
Ok so the peddle is just a swich device, an easy way to turn it on and off. So first I decided, I would just remove the peddle and let it run. Ok, not such a great idea. I mean it did work but it was a hastle. I had to keep plugging and unplugging it.
So determined to make it work, I ran down to the basement where I am currenly working on a extra bedroon, and got a household switch. And you can see below my now rigged sewing machine. So Yes, I am sewing this quilt with an on off switch as apposed to a peddle. It is definatly different but I was surprised how quickly I adapted. Of course I will have to order a new cord, but that was a given anyway. So at least I can keep sewing in the mean time.
I just had to share my story, even if it is a little silly. I am actually thinking of running to homedepot tomorrow and picking up a dimmer switch. I realized this would be a great idea for someone if they wanted to sew but did not have use of their legs. LIve and learn.
